Hey all im new to this. im looking at upgrading some stuff mostley cpu and gpu.

my pc is

i5 2400
16gb ddr3
ASRock Z68 professional Gen 3
AMD Radeon hd 7800 series.

i was looking at getting a RX480 4gb and an i5 7600 but relaised the other night that they are different pins. what upgrades for my cpu can i get that are 1155 to suit my motherboard. thanks in advance.

The best CPU you can install is an i7-3770K

but you won't see a huge improvement, just one tier up. Where you would see an improvement is in CPU multi-threaded games.

If you want improved CPU performance you will be looking at a new mobo too. An i7-3770K on Ebay seem to be going for around $200, I don't think it is worth it in your case. The i5-2400 is still a valid CPU.

Your real issue is your GPU, try replacing just that and see what happens...
