Looking to upgrade to i5 8600k

Is it worth upgrading to an i5 8600k?

Current spec:
I5 7400
Gtx 1060 6gb evga sc
8gb ddr4 ram
650watt psu
1tb hard drive

Side by side, the 8600K is much stronger and has 2 more cores and threads, performing better in games and editing/streaming...

So, yeah, it is a worth upgrading, but you WILL have to get a Z370 mobo + Cooler as well with the new CPU since your current parts aren't compatible with the new rig.

More worth it would be to upgrade to an i7-7700k, throw another 8GB RAM at it, and get a 256GB Samsung 850 Pro SATA SSD for your boot c:\ drive. Less money, better spent, you won't be that terribly behind the i5-8600k

I knew that a new mobo would be needed, I got an gamemax iceberg aio cooler which fits socket 1151 (I'm assuming is exact same) only do gaming but would like my pc to be future proof and a strong cpu to pair with a gtx 1080 in the future. It does satisfy me but would love to see some more fps in games

Yeah, it should fit the new cpu as well.
Welp, getting two more faster cores surely will help you future proof your rig.

Be aware that, you wouldn't face a 'huge boost' in FPS since you'd be upgrading your CPU and not the GPU, therefore, only in games that your current 7400 bottlenecks the 1060(which aren't much, just a handful of CPU-Heavy games...) you will see a improvement.
