Hello,

I am looking for some advice and guidance on upgrading my graphics card. I am aware that I will probably need to upgrade my power supply, motherboard and RAM. I am hoping to get a RTX 4090/4080, though I may just go for a 3080/3090 as there r some really good deals lately. I am based in the UK.

I will not be upgrading for 2/3 months. But I may wait longer if I need to in order to get a 4090/4080.

I mostly use my pc for gaming, mostly strategy and resource management type games, but also for streaming and internet usage. I am aware a 4090 is massive overkill for strategy games but I may consider switching from my Xbox series X for action games if I get a powerful graphics card. Also I am upgrading as I am expecting a little money so hoping to future proof as much as possible as I dont know when the opportunity will arise again.

I am thinking that a 4080 or even a 3080 may be sufficient but will see how the land lies in a couple of months when I am in a position to upgrade.

I currently use a 4k tv with a 60 refresh rate though I will be buying an 8k tv with 120 refresh and VRR. I dont have any interest in overclocking.

I am interested in hearing views on which of these cards would be most appropriate but also what parts must be upgraded and which parts can be kept (and any bottle necking or performance issues that may arise from doing so). I am ideally hoping for a 4090/4080 but I am not rich so hoping to do all this on as small a budget as possible. I dont mind some minor bottle necking of the GPU as I could always potentially replace the problem parts at a later date.

Thanks in advance.

Can you state the model of the unit? Corsair is the brand of the unit, while 750W is the advertised wattage of said unit. how old is the unit in question?

I am aware that I will probably need to upgrade my power supply, motherboard and RAM.
You'd also be better served in replacing the processor to something that isn't an APU, the 5800X3D.

Hi,

The power unit is about 3/4 yrs old. I am unsure of the model, sorry.

I am aware that there are better processors out there but I just updgraded to this earlier this yr and I am reluctant to part with it unless absolutely necessary.

Thanks for your help.

I wouldn't even think about a 4090, a 4080 maybe but pairing a 4090 with a 750w PSU and a 5700G is just a no go.

Getting a CPU instead of an APU would help but you can avoid it. I would most likely go towards a 6800XT or 3070ti/3080 with that config instead, much better value for money if you can find a good deal and you won't need to do a full PSU and CPU change to accommodate them. Not sure on 8K gaming, I don't even think a 4090 could stand 8K gaming at 120fps, it's also not super practical for gaming but you do you!

But if you really want a 4080 or 4090, you will 100% need a better PSU, upwards of 1000w and it being a compatible PSU to prevent the use of the dreaded adaptor, those don't come cheap mind. As for the CPU, I would also upgrade that to prevent a bottleneck, a 5800X3D would prevent the need for a Motherboard change. As for RAM, 16GB of 3200 is fine for most things.

Thanks for ur advice. I am willing to tolerate some bottle necking for now.

I am unsure if the motherboard would support a 4080 or a 4090. I was always planning on upgrading to a 1000w psi.

Thanks

As far as I know, as long as it's a modern motherboard it's compatible with any modern GPU.

I highly recommend you wait for the 7900 XTX performance stats, it looks way better value for money than the 4080 or 4090.

Yeah I was thinking about that. It does compare well to the 4080. will see whats available when I come to buy.

Thanks mate.
