Looking to upgrade video card

I have a dell XPS -8300 w/ current specs:

Intel Core i7-2600 @3.4ghz
8gb ram
64 bit OS
AMD HD Radeon 6770

I think dells PSU is a 460W OEM

Will either the GTX 750Ti or a R9 270 have sufficient power req and space to fit in my current dell tower (the size of these things is terrible)?

Also, my current card is running hot, will that be a problem in the next card I purchase?

Either will be fine so long as your PSU supplies 30amps on the 12v rail, the cooler on the card you have is probably just getting old, it shouldn't affect your new card unless your case maybe needs an extra fan, see how it goes.

If your PSU doesn't supply 30a on the 12v rail (check the label on the side) then get the 750ti

Yes, the GTX 750 Ti system needs a minimum of 400 W PSU, the R9 270 needs a min of 450 W PSU.. In choosing the GPU, refer this link.. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1034?vs=1130 (R9 270 is the re-badged version of HD 7870).. It's better to get GTX 750 ti, as its power requirement doesn't close to your PSU so that your system's safe for sure..

Well, number one those cards are way different in performance and power consumption. The R9 270 will consume about 150W by itself under load and the 750ti will do about 60W. Plus, for about $30.00 more you get almost a 100% performance increase if you went with the R9 270 over the GTX 750ti. You are going to need at least a 550W PSU to run the R9 270, however, I recommend you go to about the 700W range to give yourself some head room for upgrades later on. And as for the physical size of the cards, you need to measure your current case to see if either will fit with enough room to give you good air flow too.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I recommend more than 500W/550W PSUs if you want to have some head room and room for expansion if desired later so you don't have to worry about getting another PSU later. It is always good rule of thumb to have around 200W head room just incase you want to overclock or have lighting or anything else that needs to be powered and it won't affect the rest of the system.

On the R9 270, yes I did exaggerate; however, the GTX 750ti is a power saver type card and does not perform the same as the R9 270 and the R9 270X. Which, btw, the R9 270X is not much more powerful than its predecessor the R9 270. I've seen various benchmarks to prove this as well, all I had to do was google for them. The R9 270X gives you anywhere between 9-20ish FPS more at all settings compared to the 750ti and you can assume or look at other benchmarks and see that the R9 270 is just behind its brother in FPS by like -5 on average.
