I'm looking to upgrade my GPU, i currently have an rx 5500 xt 4gb edition. It's still working ok, but the 4gb vram is sort of killing me in the new AAA games. My two options to upgrade is a fxf 6600xt 8gb (merc 210), or a Zotac rxt 3060 12gb non overclocked. they are both available at the same price. Please note that my CPU is a ryzen 3 3100. I plan to upgrade that early next year when the ryzen 7000 launches.

So, the thing that I am confused over is which of the two cards availible to me is better. After using a Radeon 5500 for 2 years, I am a little tired of Amd, the software is sort of crap and unless the 6600xt is far better, I really am not too eager to go back to them for another (hopefully) 3-5 years. I have never used Nvidia before so I am a little curious to give team green a shot.

the main hang up on me purchasing the 3060 is the core clock. the 6600xt has a clock speed of about 2500 mhz, and 2000 cores. the 3060 has more cores 3500 but only 1700 mhz.
I am planning on playing AAA titles at 1080p. i would like to get a 4k monitor at some point in time but right now my target is 1080p at +/- 100fps.

thanks

Why worry about this? You can't compare ONE stat of a GPU and think it's better or worse than other GPU. It's thinking like yours that kept the netburt/P4 running as long as it did because it could hit 4.4GHz! I would gladly run a GPU from Ford or Chevy with only 1000 cores and a 1GHz clock speed if the cores were so advanced it could beat the 3080TI. Don't look at core count, clock speeds, RAM amount, PCIe bus, etc. Look at the frames the entire card provides.

Speaking of which, using the link that Rolli provided, at 1080 the 6600XT is a bit better than the 3060 at 1080. Moving to 4K makes them basically even. I honestly would get whichever was cheapest. You won't notice 10% difference in frames while gaming.
