Hello, I currently have a XPS 8700 that's using the same stock GTX645 it came with. I would like to try upgrading to a RTX 2060 for both gaming and deep learning tasks. I have two questions to this end:

1.) Is this possible/advisable with my the 8700's specs? I found some other threads that indicated that the power supply was not compatible.

2.) Are there any difference between the different RTX 2060 cards on amazon? There are like 20 different ones...

Solution
The general 460W power supply is sometimes advertised by Dell as having the ability to handle a 225W video card.

The 2060 is far below that threshold at around 160W, maybe a little more for the overlocked varieties. The 2060 Super is 175W.

I have an XPS 8700 with an i5-4460. Ssince new until February 2018, I was using an R9 285 Gigabyte Windforce OC (around 190-195W) without issue on the original 460W PSU. February 2018, I replaced the power supply in anticipation of getting a GTX 1080Ti, but wound up actually getting a 1080 non-Ti. Had I known ahead of time that I'd wind up with the non-Ti, I probably would have stayed with the original Dell PSU.

My son is using an XPS 8910, also with the Dell standard 460W power supply, with...
If others have outlined that your current PSU is insufficient for high-end GPUs, then please kindly upgrade your PSU.

2.) Are there any difference between the different RTX 2060 cards on amazon? There are like 20 different ones..

All the cards have the same base GPU model, which is the RTX 2060. These are different CUSTOM AIB GPUs. Each manufacturer makes it's own own custom design.

The only difference is between the PCB cooling solution, and slightly higher factory overclocked cards. Apart from the type of cooling used, all these GPUs are exactly the same. Also, sometimes there is difference in the BUILD QUALITY as well, but not by a huge margin.

ASUS ROG STRIX are generally known for their build quality, and MSI's Lightning Z models as well.

I think you'll be fine, given the 2060's lower power consumption.
