Looking to Upgrade

Plan on getting FX-8350 and I can't decide between GA-990FXA-UD3 or the ASUS M5A97 R2.0. I don't think I'll ever use two GPU's. So I'm thinking the Asus is the way to go, I'm just worried about the quality of the board vs Gigabyte.

Also what type of ram, PC3 12800 or PC3 17000. It seems the asus board supports 17000 but the gigabyte one doesn't?

Hi,

Between the two i'd go with Asus.
For the ram, get the cheapest with at least 1333 speed but the lowest timing possible.

Example: 1333 mhz @ cl 8 is most of the time better than 1600 mhz @ cl9. But if you compare both side by side, the difference in calculated in milliseconds, so you won't notice much difference anyway.

For gaming, 8 GB is more than enough.

So a DDR3 1866 cl9 wouldn't be faster?

I almost went with the ASUS board but i noticed the fsb is a little lower. still cant decide on ram

If you want the computer to go over 1600 mhz, you need to overclock. If you overclock this would be the best ram.
