Well, I plan on getting a new GPU as the title says. I can't decide what to get tho. Im working with the $200 dollar price range. My current GPU is the GTX 480 (yes, old i know) I was looking into buying the R9 270 GPU from AMD. Would that be an decent upgrade from what i have? Or what would you guys suggest? I'll just be gaming on 1080p by the way, a few reasons why i want to upgrade is because well, The 480 runs hot and is extremely loud.

My current specs are:
Asus Z77 Mobo
8GB of some ram i have no clue
I5 3570k
GTX 480

The 660ti is not a noticeable upgrade to the 480. Also, I have 3 Sapphire GPUs and none of them run hot or loud. Don't make generalized statements about something you seem to know little about.

Absolutely correct!! 660ti is not a decent upgrade.. Hardly 20% change over the 480 or less..

What you guys are saying its not worth it to upgrade it then? I mean that seemed like the best card for under 200. The GTX 480 is nearly 4 years old now. It literally hearts up my room now, what would you guys do? It would be quite awhile until I could get a better card.

All that i want to know is what is the best bang for the buck around the $200 dollar mark? I was even thinking of saving up a bit more to get the 760 the one from Asus http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121775 And later down the line get another one and SLI.
But now i guess the question would be is, is that GPU i just linked (Asus GTX 760) a decent upgrade from the 480. A few big things i dislike about the 480 i have atm is the heat it puts out and the noise, it sounds like a jet is taking off.

Yeah the 760 would be a decent upgrade!!

By the way, i decided i'm going with an EVGA 780 TI, reason being is because of my gaming laptop i have, my friend is paying me what i bought it for. If your wondering what it is or well was now its the G75VX from ASUS, he's giving me 900 dollars for it, so if you guys have a suggestion if there would be something better than just buying the 780 TI let me know. I should also note that i need to get new ram (my current ram is 8GB at 1333MHZ) so that most likely will run me about another 100. So in total with me a getting the 780 ti and the new ram it will be roughly 840 bucks. But if you guys have any other recommendations other than the 780 TI let me know (i don't want AMD just for the fact of heat and noise, i want a semi quiet rig).

The R9 290X is available at $600 and it is better than the 780ti in most games. Nevertheless the 780ti is also a very good upgrade for you. But whatever card you choose to buy do remind yourself to upgrade to a decent PSU with 600W worth of Output power with at least an 80 PLUS BRONZE certificate. Never compromise on the PSU or hell will break lose..

780ti is only option if you want it more or less quiet compared to 290x unless you swap the cooler.
1600mhz ram will be all right, gskill got some cheap (low price, still good quality) 2133mhz ram modules, but you don't really need them

Well let me ask you all this, I have 900 from selling the laptop what should i upgrade? I have an I5 3570k and Asus MOBO as you know. I wanna upgrade the GPU, and Ram, any suggestions with that budget what to do?

If you look at the benchmarks they suggest the 660Ti is an upgrade from the 480.

Benchmarks will show an improvement. But will he see any improvement. $200 is a lot to spend for a few FPS.

A single 660Ti is comparable to SLi'd 560Ti's which are comparable with a 580 which is faster than a 480.

1 tier difference as per Tom's Graphics Card Performance Hierarchy Chart

"You can use this hierarchy to compare the pricing between two cards, to see which one is a better deal, and also to determine if an upgrade is worthwhile. I don’t recommend upgrading your graphics card unless the replacement card is at least three tiers higher. Otherwise, the upgrade is somewhat parallel, and you may not even notice any worthwhile difference in performance."

That's a 2 tier difference. A 760 Is a 2 tier jump for him and I'm sure he would see an improvement. But that is out of his price range.
