i feel like i need a new cpu any suggestions i dont mind getting a new motherboard but only have £200 really to spend i would also want a good quiet cpu cooler. specs bellow:
Processor: AMD FX 4170 4.2GHz

If your goal is gaming it would be better if you upgrade your GPU.

Stock fan will be fine with Intel, you probably wont hear it until few hours of big load on CPU liek playing games, i have the same CPU and i used stock i couldnt hear it
 
FX 6300 would be an upgrade but a bit marginal, the other issue is the video card. If you go too high in CPU to be really worth the money, now your video card is the slowest part, so you'd need to upgrade that as well.

My suggestion would be to go up 2 levels to a FX 83xx series for now and save up a bit to upgrade the video card to get a balanced system. Just pick a CPU from here that matches your budget, the 8350 is a good one there. http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=4305 To make things even more confusing for you LOL, if you do get the cheaper FX-6300 you can overclock it a bit and get very good performance in games, probably as good as the FX 8350.
