After almost 4 years after building my computer and with this being a time when a bunch of sales happen, I decided it would be about time to upgrade my PC. I am currently running a AMD FX-6300 with 8GB of RAM and a GTX 1060. I am currently looking to upgrade to a current gen CPU, with a new Mobo and RAM with it. What would be the best CPU to start with for mostly gaming as well as some light programming and video editing? Would prefer to stay under $200.

Easy. Ryzen 3600 hands down is the best value right now. You will need a new mobo and DDR 4 Ram. (3200mhz or higher is best for Ryzen)

If 200 is for everything then you'll need to look around the used market instead since with CPU ram and mobo itll be around 300 to 350 USD.

3200mhz ram would only save you a few bucks, maybe 5-10. So this is a solid starting point.

Agree with everyone else regarding the Ryzen 5 3600 6-core CPU. AMD is really giving Intel some stiff competition that the Ryzen 3000 series. Indeed, $200 won't cut it to get to the latest generation CPUs and motherboards. However, if you are willing to step back to a Ryzen 5 2000 series CPU, there are definitely some good deals out there. BTW, what size is your current case? ATX, micro-ATX, etc. Also the size/wattage of your current PSU?
