Is there anyone still reading this group? I have seen more
spam in the last two weeks than posts.

I have a question: What is the "Lord of the Abyss"?
I found one yesterday on Fire Island. No idea how it got there.
In 2D, it looked like a big silver Damon. My 115 Archer tried
to kill it, but when she got it down to its last 10 hit points it some
how took her down to her last 10 hit points. She ran to the house
on Fire Island to heal up, and it followed.

550 arrows and 120 bandages later, she had it down to 10 hit points
again and it jumped right into a "private" house. Being private did
not stop it. It killed her in a flash and stayed in the house. I did
not think monsters or any non-friend could go into a private house.
It seems to have a "one hit" kill. I tried to kill it with my
Samurai, and my Paladin. One hit and they were both dead.
I lured it outside my house with my miner/smith, got my stuff that
it did not loot off the bodies, and logged off.

Ok, what is it, and how do you kill one? I have looked at the
"monster" list on Stratis and all over UO.com and can not even find
it listed.

Damn, I wanted to kill that thing..........

It's a Balron isn't it? One of the toughest monsters in the game. With
the latest archery nerf I'm not surprised you had trouble.

Hmmm, I haven't seen this post yet. Maybe it's just individual.net's
distance from the US. Or maybe I have screwed up a filter. Guess I have
to wait and see if Ice's post propagates.

I found a Collector of Souls by the temple the other day. I'm not sure
where it came from - maybe from some treasure chest spawn? Anyhow, aren't
the named balrons tougher than just the plain "balrons" you can find some
places?

It's a balron. Basically, a much tougher version of a daemon. Used to be
in style to drain them of mana and EV them to death, but that was before
they could insta-dispel. Now, I believe the most common methods of killing
them involve either bards/archers or necropaladins.

Balrons do spawn on L6 maps.. And there are several L6 spots on the
Island.

The "Collector of Souls" is one of the names used for balrons. As was
previously noted, the one you encountered was likely a leftover from a
t-hunt. I have fought them in the blood dungeon in Ilshenar. The "regular"
balrons are tough to solo and the paragons seem darn near impossible to best
alone. A paragon balron is best fought with a force of eleventyseven white
wyrms. ;-)

The archery "nurf" (i.e. having to wait at least three seconds to fire after
moving) has made archery nearly useless in a fast moving battle. I have
been using my tamer/archer/paladin to help out with the invasion and the
archery part is not nearly so useful as it used to be.

I have seen monsters break into houses also. A couple weeks back I logged
on to find a gargoyle flying around in my house. Now the house is not
private, but when I tried to ban the ah heck I was informed that it was
already banned. Clearly there are some "issues" with the monster-in-house
logic. This bug was probably brought about during the changes made to
address PvP house hiders in Felucca.

550 arrows?? What kind of "archer" do you have? My sister's bard w/a
mage wpn bow puts them down w/under 100 arrows.

You definitely want some stamina drain on your weapon w/these things...

I've done them w/a dragon and they can really hit hard. Your vet better
be really high to keep up

Yeah, they are definitely tough, but easier to kill than the ancient
liches which can't be peaced half as easily.

115 Archery, 110 tactics, 110 Anatomy, 98 dex and 100 str is not bad.

The damn thing kept healing almost as fast as I did. Also the big hit
it gave me when I got it down to its last 10 hit points. I do not
know what it cast on me, but it took about 90 hit points all at once,
and by the time I got healed up it had also healed, so I had to start
all over. The last time I got it down to its last 10 hit points I ran
in the house to heal and it came in after me. That's when I gave up.
🙁

no, thats pretty good. Maybe you got THE balrog of balrogs...

Yup. I've noticed that at Wind lately. Since the last publish, demons
seem to cast gtr heal every turn.

I guess peacing them makes the difference and keeps them from doing that
so they're killable.

Also the big hit

True. I've been killed several times with one FS.

Moral: I guess you have to use peace, multiple attackers, or a tamer to
kill these things 🙁

I have had winged monsters who were unable to walk onto my porch start
flying away after their near dead and then turn around and fly onto the
porch no problem. Seems to be a bug.

A Necropaladin is a character that uses both Chivalry and Necromancy.
Since both skills rely on karma, it's tougher than most.

When I had a character mysteriously lose his GL status, I noticed a
significant decrease in Paladin spell duration. A lot more than I had
experienced before. I guess I'd gotten used to certain spells lasting an
exact time, kind of like getting into the groove when you're shooting
arrows with an archer.

A weird bug, too. I have an interior room in my house that's only
accessable by a door (and set to 'owner' for security). Imagine my
surprise to recall home and find a gargoyle standing in there. ;-)
Apparently, flying creatures can access most any room they like if
they're flying at the time.

That reminds me of when house breakers used flying pets to retrieve items
from the top story of houses back before secures were invented.

<nods> Just this morning I logged in to find a Mongbat on the second
floor of my house... Which is only accesible via a 'friends only'

Necro spells are no less powerful at high karma (with the exception of
Wither, and the fact that shadow wisps don't give any mana at positive
karma). Necro is generally mostly only used for forms (I prefer wraith) and
curse weapon (sometimes corpse skin), which means you can run with 50 necro
and GM+ Spirit Speak. If karma drops low enough that you notice a lack of
performance with your chivalry spells, then just kill evil mage lords in
Felucca for 20 minutes or so and you are back to Glorious Lord. If you
are killing high-end stuff, though, that usually is not much of an issue.
