I have a Wintv tuner for years on my XP desktop. When i first boot up, i can hear windows sound on various sights including youtube, and at times i can go to my tv tuner and hear the sounds there....BUT, after putting my pc in standby mode, and revive it a couple of hours later, I lose the sounds. I check volume control and i see the mute button checked there, but removing does not give me my sounds back. It seems i have to shut down the pc, reboot and all is normal again...does anyone know why this happens?

Sorry,,,the TV tuner is WinTV card, my sound card is SoundMax I have a cable coming from my TV cable box audio output going to my soundcard's Line In. My graphic AGP card is FX 5500 My speakers go to my speaker input of the sound card, I notice that when i check volume control "Line in" is muted, and yet both my windows and TV sound is normal.

I see two options, either after waking up from standby mode your Audio service doesn't initialize properly (go to start->run: services.msc to see if the Audio Service it's up and running, try to restart it if it's stopped)

Or, your dedicated Sound Card simply doesn't support standby mode, maybe you need to change the sleep state under BIOS settings to one that your sound card can support (you'll have to test each mode your mobo supports)

Services.msc doesn't even show "Audio Sevice"...what does that mean? I just had to reboot again to get both of my sounds, Windows and youtube back. A FUNNY THING HAPPENED this time...as I rebooted, and looking at the post setup, my WinTV tuner was aleady on and i heard the audio. Would it help if I tell you just how i have the cable hooked up to my tvtuner? The audo and video is connected to my TVtuner...so it seems it makes the sound independant of windows. This does not happen all the time only when I may have left the TVtuner on..so after reboot, i shut it off.

check again, it's probably as "Windows Audio Service" or something like that, with that new description seems like it is indeed that your WinTV Tuner doesn't support the standby mode you have atm on your PC, try the different levels supported by your mobo under BIOS.

In Device Manager, check the Properties of the card and see if there's a Power Management tab with a tick in "Allow the computer to turn this device off to save power". If there is, remove it and click Apply then OK your way out. If it's starved of power coming out of Standby, it can't work.

Yes, this time i did find it under windows audio service
AS far as tweaking my Bios or MB, It sounds too technical for me...i wouldn't know what to look for. I could not find anything about power managment

The path '/apps/scripts/su' is invalid. It does not match any of the predefined TAIS webapps so a browser redirect was not issued. >>> This it the result I got checking that first link.
The second link said could not be found on this server

Thanks...i was wondering how do you know about my pc? I do not recall mentioning it in any of my previous posts regarding this problem...only the TVtuner and my Soundmax sound card...were mentioned. Someone in this thread mentioned i should go into my Bios and look for standby info there. I did and no where could i find anything about standby.

I think I can solve that mystery for you Novel8 but sadly not your problem.

Fact is, Davidchase knows nothing about your computer and his post is largely cribbed from other writers, as are many of his posts. Here's a link to an article - you may recognise some of the words. http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/213271-no-sound-after-standby/

I'm trying to communicate with him about this issue.
