i have a home built computer that is hooked up by ethernet cable. i have a hp pavilion laptop and my phone hooked up wireless. all three will lose connection at the same time. I thought it was my modem so we had it exchanged but it is still dropping them. my modem is a cisco modem and my router is a netgear 3700 any help would be appreciated thanks

But that hasn't fixed your problem. You need to continue to do detective work. Check logs on the router, etc. Just because you switched the modem, doesn't mean it isn't having problems.

Next time it drops out plug your computer directly into the modem and see if you can get a connection that way. If you can the router is the problem and we can start looking at the router settings. If you can't then there is a fault somewhere between your Modem and the exchange in which case you will need to get a technician out.

Okay, You should be able to access your router settings by opening a web browser and typing 192.168.1.1 This should display the login page. The default username and password is admin and password (If password is still the password I highly recommend you change it whilst in the router settings for security purposes.)

Once logged in select basic settings, You should see somewhere on that page "Domain name server address" There should be two options. The first is get automatically from ISP and the second is use these DNS servers with a text box to put a manually assigned DNS. Which option is selected for you?
