My laptop loses connection every couple of hours to the TP-Link router TL-WR940N. This happens over Wi-Fi or when connecting directly to the router over LAN cable. Other devices, like my Android smartphone and an iPad, work normally with no issues.

I have repeater setup as well and i was under impression that an interference between the router and the repeater could be the root cause of the issue but it seems not as it happens over the LAN cable as i mentioned.

My Laptop configured to obtain the IP address and DNS automatically from the router which has DHCP enabled.

Any help please?

I can suggest a few things here.
But first of all when your disconnected via wire or wi-fi. how long is the duration before it connects, or does it require you to restart the laptop to get a connection again ?

Is the repeater of the same brand also, or are they mixed. In respect to the other Wi-fi, lan connected.
Bridging to and from the tp link.

Laptop disconnection to the router in this case vary; between 30 seconds to two minutes before it reestablishes the connection again (no need for laptop restart or power-cycle the router). Repeater is of the same model, TL-WA701ND. It is NOT connected over LAN to the root router.

It would suggest to me if it happens.
For example when downloading at high speed or gaming, or with any programs.
But works fine most of the time with browsing for hours ect.

That you check both the router and repeater.
First of all check the main router to see the setting of it`s hardware firewall.
Also check to see if the router has features such as flood protection.
If the router thinks it is being flooded, it will disconnect the computer or IP adress given and suspend it`s connection for a set time.
It is based on the port address of a program or a game that it uses.

If the repeater also has firewall capability. Then disable that, let the main router deal with fire wall. two hard ware firewalls can also cause a headache, and a drop in transmission or disconnect. Also check in the repeater for the option of flood protection. Disable both in the main router and repeater if they exist.

Make sure Upnp mode is selected in the main router.

i`m suspecting here if the laptop is the only thing suffering from a disconnect, then it is related to security of the main router such as flood protection.
