Losing connection when i connect monitor

i have a lenovo yoga 2 pro laptop which im trying to connect to my monitor(ASUS VG248QE) . however, when i display it my comp immediately loses my home network and cant find it. any ideas?

that worked sort of. i have connection but it is slower than when i do not use the monitor.
