Loss of windows peripherals

I was installing updates with windows update and also installing a usb wireless adapter driver. the mouse stopped working, so i forced restart it, and now i can't use the mouse or keyboard. not even sure how to boot from the cd drive to install xp again... any ideas what to do?

Uninstall that update. You can connect a wired mouse temporally to help you get through the menus.

i tried a wired mouse and keyboard, and neither work. the keyboard will blink off and on (num lock, etc.) i tried the keyboard on another computer, and it worked. 99% sure the mouse works too.

i can't. the keyboard nor th mouse work. tried inserting the windows xp cd. can't boot from that since the first boot device is the hd.

Can you get into your BIOS? Your keyboard should be activated by the BIOS to enable you to use the USB keyboard before Windows loads the USB keyboard driver. If you cannot use your keyboard at all you might have a hardware failure.

Do you have a PS2 (round) keyboard connector? If so, try that if you can.

i can't get into the bios. i fixed the mouse. had more than one connected. will have to try to get a ps2.
