Lost access to dynamic disk in Windows XP

After I did a reinstall of windows xp, I could no longer access one of my disks. It is a dynamic disk, and come up as "unreadable" in the disk management tool of windows. after previous reinstalls of xp I seem to recall to get the option to import the disk, but all I get now is the option to change it to a basic disk, which will in turn erase all my data...
If anyone could help me with tips on how to access my disk again without losing data, I'd most appreciate it. Or alternatively tell me where I can find a program to pull the data off the disk before I make it basic....

I believe offhand you need to import a foreign disk. You can do a microsoft search on it.
