Hi, so I installed Windows 8 on an SSD a few months ago and had it set to AHCI mode in the BIOS before OS installation. Now a few days ago I got bluescreened with 'KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE'.

The machine rebooted but asked me to reset the BIOS for some reason and I had no choice but to do it. So I did and it went back to IDE mode upon reset. When I try switching to AHCI mode now, the machine will crash and wont go into the OS but if I let it remain on IDE mode it works fine. I don't want to lose out on the performance benefits of AHCI mode. Any suggestions?

PS: I tried the registry hack but the start values in those 2 keys were already set to 0 anyway
