Hi folks

I took the leap and converted to ntfs, now my cd and dvd drives don't
recognize anything.

Any help appreciated.

Try running the file XP_CD-DVD-Fix.exe from Doug Knox' site at
http://www.dougknox.com. Click on Win XP Fixes, then "Restore CD/DVD
Drives to Explorer" in the right hand column.

Do you mean that any media that you put into your cd or dvd drives is not
recognized or that XP can't see either of the drives, your comment is not
clear.

Hi Folks,

Here some more info, I lost my cd and dvd drives-- no media is recognized.

I've since found that I also lost my network connection also. AND my 2 of
my 3 machines became terribly slow. SO:

I reloaded Windows xp on my Dell, my laptop is slow but functional-- for now.

I got my network up and running again, HOWEVER, I cannot access directories
such as Windows, Program Files, Documents and Settings, the note at the
bottom of the box says the options are greyed out because they are used by
the system, but I have access to those directories on my laptop.

Having said all this, how to I make those directories accessable again.

Thanks for your patience and help.

Dan
