NEED HELP ASAP

Hello,

I'm an IT-Student, I work for a company that allows people with IT-related questions or tasks to hire students. Usually You dont get hard tasks, often it doesn't require hardcore skills.

One of my clients (with windows 10) wanted me to put her library folders (Pictures, Downloads, Documents and Desktop) on the second disk, because the C drive was full. Before I did this, I decided that it was a good idea to backup all the files in these folders. I backed up the files by simply copy pasting the files and waited for the computer to finish the process.

After backing up I started with the transfer. At first I decided to do it manually, so I made folders in the D drive \Users\username\libraryfolder. Then changing locations of the library folders in properties. I waited for every single process with patience. So then I went to the settings and changed the default storage locations of everything except for the apps. Then I had to change the location of the Icloud folder.

After all of this I restarded the computer and there was no data transfer or any process running, atleast im not sure if there was in the background. When the computer started it showed a screen: configuring windows 10 (Im not 100% sure , but it was someting like this) there was no update after this screen, the pc just started and worked fine. But then, I went to the pictures folder and I realised that 90% of the pictures are gone, just disappeared, vanished, poof. I didn't panic, because I thought I had the files backed up. I go back in the external drive, and what happened? Everything was copied except the pictures folder, it was empty.... Even though I was sure i had copied the files and waited for the process to finish.

Now what do I do to fix this? Im not sure what caused it. Hardware failure? Something to do with Icloud, because the icloud library was enabled? Update problem?

I need help ASAP.

PS: I was thinking about restoring the pc to an older point, but I don't know if that will recover data.

Solution
Run Recuva or EaseUS and don't have anything else done with the PC; the more data that is written in the meantime, the harder it will be to recover files.

I will try this. Thank you.

Do you think it had something to do with copying big amount of data from an SSD to HDD?
