Hello Tech community!

I would like some advise regarding motherboards, since I just cannot get my head around it. I have had several motherboards recommended to me. However, what one thinks is good is completely rejected by someone else.

My build is somewhat like this:
CPU: Intel core I5 4460
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8gb (2x 4gb) DDR3-1600 memory
Storage: Crucial BX100 - 250 GB (€ 89,90) + WD Caviar Blue 1 TB
GPU: Asus Radeon R9 290 - Direct CU II OC 4Gb GDDR5
Case: Fractal design core 2300
Power supply: Seasonic S12II 520W 80+ Bronze certified ATX power supply

Since I'm a novice at building computers I don't know what to look for. Initially I've had my eye out for ATX motherboards since they seemed to be the go to form factor of gaming rigs. However, since then I've read up on micro ATX sized boards and they seem to have the same features minus some PCI slots which I'll most likeley never use anyways.

So what I would like to know from you is what type of board you would recommend if you have a look at the components I will be using. I'm willing to spend about 80 to 90 € max on a motherboard, most likely from http://. The cheaper the better if it still is of good quality. I am looking for a motherboard that goes along nicely with the components I have used and with good features such as enough 6 gb/s sata ports, USB 3.0, a good chipset and LAN-acces.

Do you recommend something like B85, H81, H87, H97? I'm completely lost here.

To complete this post are some of the motherboards I have previously looked at. I just don't know how to compare these with one another.

- MSI H97 PC Mate
- Gigabyte G1 sniper B6
- Gigabyte GA-H97-HD3

TL;DR: do you recommend an ATX or microATX and which chipset should I go for?

H97 would be the best chipset for your needs. Since you do not seem to plan to overclock or get multiple GPUs, there is no point in buying Z97 (or Z87) motherboard, unless you want to eventually add more than 16Gb of ram which would be completely useless for gaming. H81 and B85 boards are also LGA1150 sockets but are intended to be used in home or office rigs.

The MSI H97 PC Mate is a popular choice because it's cheap, and still reliable. The BIOS layout is ok but still manageable. It will also suit your needs. I recommend it.
