So I was using windows 8.1 up until I did the free windows 10 upgrade. Recently I did a full comp reset and reinstalled everything to include fresh windows using my 8.1 disc. After doing that I am no longer eligible for my windows 10 update, does anyone know if there is anyway to contact windows and see if I can get it back? I'm sure they can look up my windows code and confirm that I did indeed take advantage of the free upgrade with it.

Solution
If you create a Microsoft Account after you reinstall 10 , your 8.1 license is no longer valid , only install 10 from now on. Create a Microsoft account this time after you install and your account will act as your activation key.
If you use a MSA already, and had received the Anniversary update since August, your digital entitlement is already matched to your Email address as it was auto for anyone who used an MSA since the update.

and

Since PC already had win 10 installed on it, all you need to do when you reach screen asking for licence is click "I don't have a key" and the PC will check a Microsoft server after you install it and confirm you are eligible,

Basically, you should be fine :)

Hi, I have had a very similar issue as my SSD failed and I never made a backup of my W10 upgrade. Can someone confirm that the Microsoft account is the same as the xbox account I've been using to download games from the windows store?

It should be if you can't ever recall giving them another email address when you registered the upgrade. Best option is just try it and see.
