Hi.

I've recently purchased a Linksys USB WiFi N600 adapter for my new PC that doesn't have a built-in adapter.
This wouldn't be so bad, if the connection wasn't slow with lost packets on even 4/5 bars connection. :fou:
I've used PingPlotter to show this: REMOVED IMAGE
I don't know what is causing this, and I cannot play any games on my PC until I fix this.
(Unless I want to wait days for them to download.)

Some things that might help:
Other PCs in the household don't seem to have this problem.
Plugging it into Ethernet is not an option.
Before I got the adapter, I've tried to use Windows Internet Connection Sharing (Which messed up my laptop as the host and I had to refresh it's files. 🙁 )
Before the adapter I've also successfully tethered the PC with a tablet which gave me internet of about the same speed.
Somehow, unplugging a printer that was in a USB port boosted my internet speed for a few seconds. Same with moving the tower around a little bit.
Doing a file refresh on this PC as well is my LAST resort, I've finally just got it set up.

That's all I really know. :??: Thank you for reading, and I really hope we can find a solution. I'm sick of this and I really want to just use my new computer. :)

EDIT: I've bought a new adapter, this one has a longer reach and it's bigger. It seems to have fixed my problem, even though the other adapter claimed to do the same as this one. Maybe the last one was faulty? Either way, my problem is solved! Thanks for helping.

Different routers use different IP addresses. Post your model number so SMORZIO can tell you correct address or use you manual to see how to set up the channel in your router. The wireless router controls the channel. If you got your router from the cable or DSL ISP then it will still have a model number and manual you can find online.

For the information from the network tab from task manager. You posted the throughput. Can you post the link speed instead? The throughput says how hard you are using the network. The link speed gives your wireless connection speed.

WUSB600N V2 with ralink rt3572 chipset try the newest driver from the chipset vendor also with new windows os make sure the newest intel or amd chipset drivers are installed and some mb use 3 party usb 3.0 ports make sure thsoe drivers are installed. also on your router make sure it has the newest firmware.

Is this your adapter? ... Linksys AE2500 Dual Band Wireless N600 USB Adapter . Dual band means both 2.4 and 5ghz. If so MAKE SURE you are on the 2.4 ghz radio, not the 5ghz radio. 5ghz has distance problems punching thru walls vs. 2.4.

Your router can change the channel used for wi fi. Suggest you look at what channel you are currently using and select a different one. What you are describing could be interference (but you should see it on other devices too and you report other devices work well). Other test is to see what channel you are using now, then turn off router and look for wireless. See if the neighbors have their wireless point set to the same channel you are using. Easy to change channels in your router.

Don't trust the network strength display. Instead goto 'task manager' network tab. Click view then click 'select columns' make sure link speed is checked. What link speed are you getting? Does it hop around a lot?

USB ports come from hubs. Device manager sort of shows you whats on each hub in your system if you go hunting. Sharing devices on a hub can sometimes be a problem, especially with older devices. Suggest you try the USB wireless adapter in various sockets to see if one works well.

Since you have other devices try sticking the N600 into a different PC and see how well it works there. It will not bother your PC to have two network adapters, nor will your PC cry when you later remove it. Knowing the adapter works (or fails) in other PCs would be a big step forward.

aside: for my desktop, I have the usb wireless adapter attached to a 6ft usb extension cord so that it is mounted about 5 ft up on the wall vs. floor height. I needed to do that to get a decent signal thru two rooms.

Yes, that is my adapter.

Could you tell me how to change my channel? I'm not sure how to, I've never needed to.

I think it may jump a bit, but not a ton.

About the USB ports, the back ones only seem to be working somewhat right, although the internet is still slow. The two blue USB ports on the top, which I assume are USB 3.0, didn't work right with the adapter when I tried them. It uses 2.0.

I will try the adapter in a different device and get back to you on that.

I cannot access 192.168.1.1, it's a blank page. I was able to in the past.

I've bought a new adapter, this one does the same thing as the last one, but has a better reach, and it's bigger. It works so much better. Thanks for your help! I still don't know what was wrong with the last one, though.
