Lost partition on External

I shrunk my eternal 3tb seagate hdd to make room for a virtual drive i was experimenting with (which i never got to take place). Now I want to recover the 500gb on the drive but it wont let me in disk manager.
The error I get when trying to expand the volume back is this:
Only the first 2 TB are usable on large MBR disks. Cannot create partitions beyond 2TB mark, nor convert the disk to dynamic.

Convert the disk to GPT by using MiniTool Partition, the free version, and you should be able to accomplish exactly what you want.

I am so sorry that I forgot to mention to back up your data before you attempt to change your external drive from MBR to GPT.
