lost video files

Id say it has been about two years since I removed nearly all of my childhood videos from my computer accidentally. It was probably at least 500 gb of data that I got rid of. I'm not gonna go into how I did something stupid like that. I use to be really into making movies with my friends. They were my life until I was 16 and when I lost all of them I was more than upset. I've heard that these files can be retrieved? they are large files. Since deleting them the computer has rarely been used. maybe 10 or 20 times surfing the internet, so is there still hope of retrieving the files? if so whats the best software to use? should I remove the hard drive from the computer?

You can try running an application like recuva (www.piriform.com/recuva), but at this point, I wouldn't get my hopes up. Worth a shot though. Good luck!
