LoTR TECH: Balrog Switch

My Balrog is starting to be picky about what hits it counts, but seems
to work ok in test mode. So I figure I'm just in the area of adjusting
the switch. However, being the noobie tech I am, I'm not familar in
how I would adjust this switch. Most of the previous posts just assume
you know what way to adjust this thing.

Any pointers in how to adjust this switch to make it more sensative to
hits? Its not the typical leaf switch I'm used to tinkering with, and
its not immediatly obvious to me which way playing with the metal arm
would gain me what I want.

Thanks!

Bend the metal part of the switch the balrog pushes to close the micro
switch. Now the tricky part, you have to bend or adjust it away from the
tiny knob the metal part pushes in on the switch so you don't screw that up.
The far end of the switch bend it out to make more sensitive, bend it in to
make it less. And some of these micro switches trigger easier than others,
you may just try a new switch that triggers easy. LTG :)

If in test mode you have decent switch movement (i.e. it's not just
barely clicking on at the end of the Balrog's movement, or it clicks on
before the Balrog has moved halfway) you likely have a switch that has
gone south, but of course try the adjusting first. But those Balrog
switches are about as reliable as a hobo on crack....Frenchy

I'm wondering if it is a switch problem or just a balrog that needs to
be bashed quite hard to get him to bend forward. Is there anyway to
make Balrog a little less stiff and easier to get to lean forward when
you hit him?

The problem with mine was the switch was staying closed after a certain
number of hits. Then it would open up again until it got hit a few
times, and then it would be closed for a few hits. Extremely
frustrating. Replacing it and checking everything for operation solved
the problem.

Thanks for the tips LTG

I did notice in test mode that the switch 'flutters' through the
movement of the balrog, in that the sound effects in the diag mode
sounds like the switch goes open/closed back and forth quickly when the
balrog sprung section is being pushed backwards. Normal behavior for
stern diags and this switch when its 'inbetween'?? Is is this a sign
of my switch going?

I was going to crack it open tonight, but it scored decently as long as
I hit it right on the panel at the bottom of the sprung section.. where
previously hits even on the side post would score often (and safer 😉
). Since its already 10pm, and this has to be tinkered with while on
the playfield.. I opt'd to not start surgury this late at night.

Sounds like a flaky switch. Or it's almost held closed, so lots of hits are
ignored but vibration quickly opens and closes it. You'll know more when
inside. LTG :)
