Moved my sons SSD into my old Asus X99-s pc and all is fine other than a raft of unknown devices in device manager ??

This is the OS drive?

Moving that to a new motherboard, a fresh OS install is strongly recommended, often required.

Yes OS drive. Found the Asus x99-s CD that came with the motherboard. Searching that for each driver only resolved one. PC working fine in general so will forget it for now. Thinking some may be for disabled devices yet why still show up in device manager ?

Full wipe and reinstall.

Solved. Used windows update 'optional updates' even though headed by a strange description. So many 'xeon' drivers I wonder how my sons pc worked as well as it did ??.

If anyone wonders why I didn't try these. Firstly the description of that section is off putting as is the date of most of the drivers. Secondly my new PC has no issues whatsoever in device manager yet still windows 'optional' updates shows a huge list of drivers !?. Why would I install those if all is working well and device manager is happy ?!.

Moving a drive+Windows install to a different system can sometimes be fixed.

But not always.
