Paste from another forum I posted this too, plus a bit more.

Problem: Windows is only using half of my RAM. In the BIOS, in EZ MODe, I get different readings. Under Information in the top left it says "Memory: 8192 MB" but underneath that in DRAM status it shows all 4 slots with G-Skill 4096MB 2133MHz

Using HWiNFO I can see all 4 sticks of my ram, I just can't figure out why any of this happens.

It hasn't always been this way, but this has been going on for at least half a year now because I can't solve it. From research I've done (to which I never got a conclusion), I think it has something to do with CPU overclocking.

Another issue I have is that the when raising the ram frequency too high (not to it's listed spec) I have to do a bios reset because the PC won't boot. My ram is rated for 3733 or something like that. Help with either issue would be greatly appreciated, though I'm more concerned about how half of the RAM isn't usable.

I have already tried checking msconfig for a memory limit (this wouldn't cause the BIOS to not recognize half of it though I think), and reseating the ram slots in different order, as well as testing each one. They all work. The PC is almost a year old.

Specs

CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-7700K CPU @ 4.20GHz

Memory: F4-3733C17-4GTZ (x4 - 16GB in total, only 8GB showing up)

Video: ASUS ROG STRIX GTX 1080 Gaming OC

Mobo: AsusTeK Z170-WS

I've tried running with and without X.M.P. Usually running XMP puts my PC in a bootloop until I do either a memtest or CMOS.

Another (probably) unrelated issue is that recently, when my PC boots up it stays on the POST screen for a long time before booting. I'm more concerned about my memory problems though...

Solution
Try updating BIOS, if not on the latest version. Run everything in the BIOS at default to see if all ram sticks are showing up. If they are showing, then try overclocking the ram first. Once you have a stable ram overclock, then try a cpu overclock. It maybe that your mobo won't run all sticks at 3733. Have you tried 3200?

I don't quite understand. I'm pretty new to PC building and stuff. Are you saying that my RAM isn't officially supported or did I misspell it..? Also, I can't remember if I already mentioned it but when I first built my PC all the ram was there just fine.

Here is another (larger) picture for more details

To be brief, the QVL list is manufacturer testing with all kinds of rams (limited types) and find out compatible ones. If the ram is not listed on the list, there is a risk that the MB may or may not support. Check with seller if they can swap for compatible ones :)

Whoops sorry I accidentally listed it as the solution..

Anway even though it's not tested, what about for when it did used to work? And I got this ram about a year ago, do you think they will still swap it out?

on your ram are the 4 dimms the same..ie one sidded or two and same number of chips on them. if the ram klts are not the same can caue issues. the other issues is bent pin on the cpu. or bad memory controller. start with one ram stick make sure all 4 slots work. then add two sticks then three.

I bought all the ram in one box if that's what you're asking (I didn't mix match) I'll try retesting them later when I can. Maybe it would be worth mentioning that running a memtest (with the button on the board) returns that all the memory is OK. But again I'll try it later
