This is what a Clean Room looks like for data recovery. You just don't open the HDD outside of a room like this.

You said that you touched the platter and there are some fingerprints. That's not good.

Watch the Linus video where he goes to one clean room for data recovery and you will understand.

and what sort of 'repair actions' were attempted? Was it opened? (If so, probably now only a proverbial doorstop) (And how did you determine that the drive itself was cause for system crashes?)

(Your link is unusable, asks for a decryption key)

I was trying to check if the disk head is spinning didnt do anything else. It was but when I assembled it back the thing started to make those noises.

This one should work.

This is what a Clean Room looks like for data recovery. The moment you open an HDD outside of a room like this a single dust particle can go on a platter and when the head catch that dust particle it's the end of the drive.

To open an HDD and safely do any sort of job like replacing the head or a platter you need to be inside a clean room. Now you said that you touched the platter and there are some fingerprints. That's not good.

ohh k. Is there a way that I can get the fingerprints off the platter and make the disk fully working again?

If the drive still works backup anything you don't wanna lose and expect anything to happen with it but the sound won't go away and tomorrow it might just stop working.

If you open the drive again it will just add more dust and good luck cleaning the platter you touched. I have no idea if you can even clean that and if you do with what but if you can you have to be in a clean room the first time you open that drive.

You need to define your cleaning process as before it everything was running smoothly. HDDs are mechanical devices and any sudden mechanical shock or impulse force can disturb the freely rotating disc.
Try these:
  1. While your computer is 'on', unplug the HDD. If the sound exists, find the source of it.
  2. There are both free and paid 'hard drive diagnostic software'. Use them to kill the issue.
  3. If possible, take backup and replace the HDD id the problem exists. If it's a mechanical issue, the problem will be coming frequently.
