Loud noise coming from my CPU fan.

I notice sometimes when i'm doing intensive CPU work where the fan speeds up there is this loud rattling noise. I've looked directly at the fan and there are no wires that i can see hitting the blades. If I just lightly rest my finger against the side of the fan, the noise goes away.

What's going on here?

What you're hearing is fan vibration noise. To fix it, put some rubber dampers between the fan and the heatsink. E.g something similar to this,
