so i got a corsair 200r case, and two corsair af 120silent fans mounted on the site, but if i turn up the fan speed they start getting really noisy like someone blowing a broken whistle kinda sound.

it happens with every fan i use and only on the side panel

is it fixable as its pretty clear it has something to do with the case?

Solution

Fundamentally - Yes - that is the approach. I was thinking something a bit more home made (at least at first) to verify that this is indeed the solution.

If you use the silicone...

You can try to make a rubber gasket between the case wall and the fan. This should limit any vibration from the fan to the case. You should be able to get a reasonable peice of material (small sheet of rubber) from a hardware or plumbing store such that you customize the shape.

A quicker but slightly stickier solution (along the same approach) is to use silicone sealant on the mounting side of the fan - put down a bead of silicone and let it dry before installing.

If you use the silicone sealant create a bead of silicone on the mounting side of the fan and let it dry. You have now made a gasket that should isolate the vibrations. If this works - and does not look good, then go ahead an buy the pretty solution. The silicone can be removed from the fan easily.
