Low 3DMark Vantage score with 9800gtx+??

Hey y'all,

Just ran Vantage with a new setup and didn't get the scores I was expecting. What do you think?

CPU score: 32852
GPU score: 6738

Setup

CPU: Intel Q9400 @2.66
GPU: EVGA 9800 gtx +
Mobo: Gigabyte EP45-UD3R
RAM: 4 gig G.skill @ 800
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit

I know the 9800 gtx+ is far from the best, but I was hoping for better. I ran 3Dmark at all default "Performance" settings. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Just my very humble opinion but I wouldn't worry about your score in 3dmark anything its just a generic score that really doesn't tell you anything about anything. The test it run are all simulations and most the time don't even mimic real world usage (from what I am told). I never really used 3Dmark but if you truly want to test your system and benchmark it get some games with awesome graphics like World In Conflict or Fall Out 3 and see how high you can take your settings before it starts running like crap thats the best way to test out your video card and is more of a real world test. To test the CPU and other main components of the PC download winrar and try raring a huge file couple of gigs to me this is best way to check computers performance. I know this more then likely isn't what your looking for but it might be.

+1 hot roder ... 3dmark score isnt everything. SLIing my rig just gave me 2000pts ....

but games now runs WAY smoother and full AA @1650x1080

They got a 7300 GPU score. I disagree with the previous poster in that I think benchmarks can tell you if everything is running optimally. You can find what other people get on their 3dmarks, and compare like systems.

Yes the proof is in the real gameplay, but I have seen a direct connection between my 3dmark scores and performance in game (overall).

GPU score: 6738 is very reasonable for 9800GTX+ with Intel Q9400 @2.66. But if you OC your cpu 3GHz you will get around 7500 but in games you don’t see a difference because games are gpu sensitive and not cpu sensitive. 3Dmark score is a combination of gpu cpu power.

You need a CPU to run games .. they are CPU sensitive .... try this GTX+ with a Pentium4 .....

better OCing mu cpu 5% gives about 5% score increase ... but in game ? harder to say. im not alwais watching my FPS ... its smooth and beautyfull !

Thanks for all of your input. Yea, I really don't care about my 3Dmark score for anything other than making sure everything is running as it should. I have briefly played Fallout 3 and it seems to run great although I haven't had a change to benchmark it as of yet.

After looking at some online and 3dmark benchmarks it does seem that my score is where it should be. As long as the games run well, i'm happy!

nice for you ! you can still use EVGA PRECISION ( i like it ). I have 2x BFG and its working fine ... EVGA precision will tell you your GPU temp - FPS real time with graph. i dont care about seeing core speed, so costum the display to see TEMP-FPS.

This way, if you play a game, ALT-TAB or exit ... you can see you last minute FPS !

FREE and really nice lil program. ( can manual the fan with it to.

You don’t state overall performance mark, I guess it was around P9000ish?

I had some resent low marks with my son’s E4400 @3.0 + 2 x 8800gts in sli with 181.22 drivers and his friends AMD 4200x2@2.4 + 8800gs rig

The AMD CPU score was around 18,000 whereas my son CPU score was around 5,500. The 181.22 driver was apparently not certified with futuremark and I guess the CPU test was down scored as a result

After rolling back the drivers to 181.20 all was well with P11000 and a CPU score of around 26,000

My E4400@3.0 rig with 9800GX2 @725/2300 score P14000 with CPU score of 27,000, so your score seems about right. I would get latest 182.06 driver and see if it improves.
