Low Cinebench score

Hello all,

Lately i decided to run some tests on my computer as i had some crashes, bsod and high cpu temps (45-48C idle) and found out that my CPU performs way too low on cinebench, 482cb.

My system specs are:

Mobo: Asus Z170-A
CPU: i5 6600k @3,5 - 3,9 turbo boost
RAM: Kingston hyperX fury (4X4GB) @ 2400Ghz dual channel
GPU: MSI AMD R9 380 4G
PSU: EVGA 550W G2 Gold+
Case: Corsair 400R
Cooler: Coolermaster Hyper Evo 212

The score i was getting in Cinebench is 482cb. And even if i try to overclock with Asus suite 3 at the testing process it crashes and i get a clock_watchdog_timeout bsod.

Might mean that my CPU or Mobo have a problem? The parts are fresh new as i bought them on January.

Have you ever monitored temperatures? Intel has good tools to help you

Get the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool

and the Intel Exterem tuning utility to help you verify your processor and monitor temperatures, etc.

My first guess would be that you have wrongly installed the cooler - that leads to throttling in CPU intensive tasks such as Cinebench.

My first guess would be that you have wrongly installed the cooler - that leads to throttling in CPU intensive tasks such as Cinebench.

After some search on my task manager i see that Panda free antivirus captured 30% of my cpu, after i delete it i got 600cb points.
I am wondering how many ways are there to mount a cooler? A 212 EVO is pretty straight forward on how to install.

You'd be surprised. Some of the most obvious are
- insufficient thermal paste
- excessive thermal paste
- Failure to clean off thermal paste from prior attempts.
- Failure to install tight enough to ensure a good contact.
- then that are the bone-headed mistakes that include breaking things.

When it comes to processors slowing down, there are only really two cases - the processor is busy doing something else (as you have found) or the processor is throttled and that mostly happens when it thermally throttles. Oh, and of course there are problems such as running wrong benchmarks, misinterpreting the benchmark, setting incorrect voltages or any number of other "tuning options" in the BIOS. Back to bone-headed.

LoL - You have a point here. I hope i was not that bone-headed to fail the cooler installation. So i have tested with intel tools and i monitored 35C idle and in stress 55-60C. I did a benchmark with Intel XTU and i have got a score of 970.
Also after all the tests and cleanup of programs i run a cinebench test again and hit 569cb. Just to note that my CPU is overclocked @ 4.2Ghz and my RAM runs at 2400.
Are these scores normal? I was thinking something more like 650cb... Any ideas?

I'm not au fait with CInebench scores - check on Anandtech.com in their "Bench" section for comparable scores.
