Recently I was in the middle of a game on my Acer Aspre V3-771G and my fps plummeted. I went to go check task manager and my disk usage was at 100%. I checked performance monitor and system seemed to be using the most read/write.
I disabled superfetch, prefetch, and windows search, made sure I didn't have a secondary antivirus installed, changed my pagefile settings, restarted several times, ran a chkdsk /r, and did a clean boot, and my disk was still always at 100%. The thing taking up all my disk activity was always just the most demanding application I had open, and oftentimes it's usage was very low, even though task manager listed it as using 80%+ of my disk.
Finally I used microsoft defragging service, and that made the disk usage drop to normal when not launching an application. Ever since then, my disk performance has been very slow. My disk takes a very long time to download games and applications. It's usage always spikes to 100% whenever I launch an application, even a simple one like mumble. I downloaded Defraggler, and am currently attempting to defrag my disk again (my disk is still 22% fragmented according to Defraggler.), which is apparently going to take >1 day. Defraggler and crystal disk service both say my disk health is good. I would hugely appreciate any advice!
