I'm going to build my first pc in a few days, my cpu pick is i5 12400f, but I still can't decide which motherboard to go with. My budget is 400$ and i cant go more past that. In my price range the available motherboard is either h610 motherboard : msi h610m-e, msi h610m-b, gigabyte h610 h, and asrock h610 hdv/m.2. or cheap low end b660 with almost the same price : asrock b660 hdv, and biostar b660 mx-e non pro.
Most of the time ill be using my pc to study programming and using VMs to study pentesting. But at my free time i also want to have some light gaming ( low- medium setting, as long it can be played)
Can someone help me decide my mobo ?
Oh and there's also the alternative of choosing ryzen 5 5600 and a b450 mobo for less the price. Should i just go with ryzen ?
also here's the info of biostar b660mx-e non pro if you haven't seen it : https://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=1051

Have you seen the chipset comparison above. Looks like H610 supports only 1 memory channel and has fewer USB ports? And it doesn't support PCIe 4.0. That may not matter to you.

I'd also look at the specification sheets of your candidates. There might be some things there that you can't do without....or don't care about.

Not sure you can draw any conclusions about build quality and general reliability.

Looking at the specs of the h610 mobo ( msi, ggbt, asrck ), they do have dual channel memory and pcie gen 4.0 x 16 for gpu ( although h610 doesn't support pcie gen 4 for the m.2 ).
