Low end gpu best seller

First of all this is not a team green vs red.

What I am curious about is that I read claims all the time that on the lower end gpu segment, AMD outsells Nvidia.

However when looking at Steam surveys, the top gpus are the 970, 960 and 750ti.
The AMD counterparts are so far down the line.

I know not all PC gamers are on Steam. But I'd like to imagine a huge amount of them are. Specially if you're going to play online with the most popular games.

Where do people get their stats?

It's what I see and hear in gaming boards. Linus tech boards in particular. I wanted to see numbers in black and white.
