Low end system??

Hello,

My fathers' birthday is coming up in Septembre and I'd like to give him a new computer.
My budget is 500 dollars, It's so low because he is getting older and he uses his pc for mails, internet, playing solitaire,.. The pc he has now is really slow so I'd like to get him a new one.

Last week I build my own high-end gaming pc and I've got addicted to building! Now, I don't have any experience with low -nd systems so I really don't know what to buy..

Is it worth it to buy low-end parts and build the pc myself at this price point? I'd really like to do it and that also makes the pc more personal! Or should I just go with a prebuilt system?

Thanks!

- Case is up to you based on personal preference.
- AMD 2200g is an APU... cpu+gpu so no need for dedicated gpu based on games your father plays currently. however if he wants to play more demanding games, then shop for a dgpu
- Storage is up to you. You can get a smaller SSD+HDD (for storage.. photos, videos, games) or just a smaller SSD to save money or HDD alone.

AMD StoreMI Technology
AMD’s answer to Intel Optane™ is here – AMD StoreMI Technology. However, unlike Optane™, it doesn’t need yet another hardware part to work. Your current SSD and HDD will do just fine! It combines your relatively smaller-capacity SSD (Solid State Drive) with your higher-capacity HDD (Hard Disk Drive) to create a single, easy-to-manage drive. This essentially creates a single super drive that melds the speed of an SSD with the high-storage-capacity of an HDD to give you the best of both worlds.

In addition to delivering a smoother OS experience and faster load times, AMD StoreMI makes mass storage easy and fast again. StoreMI offers a perfect middle-ground for buyers who simply don’t want to splurge an absurd amount of money on a high-capacity SSD, but also covet the speed and capacity on offer.

Since AMD StoreMI is available only on the 400-series chipsets, it presents yet another reason you might want to consider upgrading to AMD’s latest platform.

if your dad not going to game or update the pc other then more ram over it life. a pre built dell or hp is not bad. the downside is lack of long warranty that some retail parts now come with. im the it guy for the family...if there an issue are you close to where you can drive/walk over to your dad and hold his mouse for him :)

Im with smorizio if your dad isnt doing anything all that intense get a cheap but ok dell prebuilt and throw an ssd in it. Will have noticable speed difference and maybe even add some ram. Can probably do that for less than $400. Dont see why youd need to spend more than $500 for internet browsing and solitare.

- Drop to a 120GB SSD, save around $40
- Drop to a B350 or B320 mobo save around $20
- Shop around for sales, Pcpartpicker isn't up to date of course
- With drops you could get a build less than $300, minus OS (shop around :)) of course

About as low as you can go using pcpartpicker for 2200g (can go lower to laughable levels;)).
NOT a suggested build. ---> https://pcpartpicker.com/list/V2rnyX
Just for fun and for a big picture perspective (prebuilts vs build your own :)) Good lcuk
