Hello, recently I been having a problem with my PC and I'm wondering if anyone could help. A couple weeks ago I discovered that my in-game FPS has dropped drastically, and I can't put my finger on why. I had my computer for 4 years now and it never really gave me any problems and I'm usually able to play most high demanding games on High/Ultra with 60+ FPS. For example, I used to play CS:GO at its highest settings at 400 FPS, and DotA 2 at 120 FPS. Now, for both games and probably other games I run them at 20+ FPS. However, for DotA 2 I am able to fix the problem if I change the video settings from original (1920 * 1080) to (1280 * 1024) and revert it back again to original setting - everything will go back to normal, but that seems odd. At first I thought I had a virus so I did a scan using Malwarebytes and found some threats; that did fix the problem for a day, but the FPS drop came back shortly after. So, now I don't think the viruses I had, had anything to do with my FPS. I did some research and I found that the GTX 660ti is having issues like this but don't really know how to resolve it. Is it the CPU/GPU? HDD? Here, are my specs:

Windows 8.1

i5 - 4670k Processor

16GB DDR3 1600 MHz Ram

Asus GTX 660Ti 2GB

500GB HDD

700 Watt ThermalTake

Asus Z87 - Plus Motherboard

I heard that some people resolved this problem by reinstalling windows? But I want to hear some more suggestions or thoughts about my problems. Thanks!

Monitor temps and see if the CPU/GPU overheats.
If the CPU overheats, take off the CPU cooler and clean it with compressed air (be careful not to spin the actual fan too hard) and/or clean and reapply thermal paste.
If the GPU overheats, Blow out the fans with compressed air. Be careful not to spin the fans too hard!

660ti is pretty underpowered. Maybe consider an upgrade?

So, I did what you said checking the temps and all and they seem to be fine, I used OpenHardwareMonitor and the temperatures were normal for both CPU/GPU ( 40 - 65C). My fans are kinda dirty so I will clean it soon but for now it looks like its not affecting them at all temp wise. So do you have any other suggestions or thoughts of why this is happening? Maybe the HDD? Thanks.

You were right, some recent updates to Valve, and game updates were installed recently. Now, I am getting all my frames back 120+ in DotA, and 400+ Frames in CS:GO. I guess some update cause my severe FPS drop but for now things are looking back to normal. Thanks for the help!

Lol,np mate.
I can play tf2 or csgo at a good few hundred sometimes, as tf2 is locked 300, anyways. But I sometimes play at only like 30fps and then I ditch the game for planetside 2 for sometime until it updates. Anyways then I'm back
