Here is my BUILD I have just replaced the RAM with this ram as recommended by one of my friends because it would better support my new 1070..
I went from 60-110 fps in GTA V to 40-70 fps.. What the heck is going on here?
Just went into task manager and it looks like im only using 7.4 gigs on the physical memory usage history while im gaming but it's recognizing that i have:

Physical Memory (MB):

  • Total 16269
    Cached 5067
    Available 9301
    Free 4128
Thanks everyone.

Running memtest right now, still no errors after 1 pass, going to let this run until someone else has any other ideas

If all of the memory is rated at 2400Mhz speed then you should enable Xmp memory mode.

If it`s not currently enabled and the profile is selected for 2400Mhz.
It will impact on the frame rate results in some cases due to the fact that the memory is not running at the correct latency timings and voltage settings for the Memory Jedi.

As I said as long as if you had a prior kit of memory fitted, then added the new memory it all runs at the same speed with the exact same memory times or latency settings and voltage settings.

If you have mixed ram speeds, or the latency timing values differ from one kit of existing memory fitted to the system, and the new memory you have fitted rather than improving things, more often it has a negative...
Games will generally not use more than 3gb.
What you are seeing is windows keeping old code around in anticipation of reuse.

Past that, fast ram has negligible difference in performance.
The benefit of faster ram is offset by higher latency.

I think I would go back to your old ram and send the new back.

That said, I have no good reason as to why the difference.

Perhaps you should run memtest86+ to verify that the ram is good.
You should be able to complete a couple of full passes with NO errors.

If I assume you are overclocking, the higher 1.65 volts to run the new ram at speed might be taking away from the power available to increase your multiplier.

Thats very interesting. I dont know if ive ever heard that games will not use more than 3gb.I didnt increase the quantity of my ram just the speed (from 1600 to 2400) Do you think that it could help if i enabled XMP in my bios? Im not overclocking anything. Im currently running memtest with no errors 50 percent of the way through the second pass.

Also the less free memory you have will impact the frame rate of a game.

To be honest looking at what you typed 4.128 or 4G of actual free system memory for other programs to use or run with including games is pretty damned poor.

You need to optimise windows so it uses less system memory.
And any programs that are set to launch or auto run after windows has loaded should be disabled to gain more free system memory.

Use ms config to do this, and also check when in there that windows is not limited to full access of the 16Gb of memory fitted to the system or capped in msconfig configuration and setup of windows.

Click on the boot tab, then the advanced options tab of the system configuration window that opens.
If there is a value set in the maximum memory config field delete it.
And un check the tick box.

Click ok and apply and then restart the system and again check for the amount of free memory quoted see if the the amount is increased.

Then test your game again.

SO MUCH GOOD INFO! thank you man, i'll get to work on it haha. Is it ok if i get back to you later with an update, would you still be able to reply if im having any trouble?
