Hello guys I bought a new graphics card 2/3 weeks ago (upgraded from gtx 580). But I'm having trouble with the fps. At first I tought I was just not reaching max performance but now I know for sure that there is something wrong. I get low fps on most games. Sometimes playable like 30 and sometimes even better like 50/60 but the main problem is that it is dropping fps to 20. And there are some silly games like Ben and Ed a zombie game and arma 2 which are stuck at 15fp which is definitely too low. I heard something about bottleneck I dont know if it has to do with it?

So there is this channel with exactly my specs and he has an video where he plays Dirt Rally here:

And when he plays he gets 50 to 60fps but when I play it with the EXACT same settings I get this:

Also: I get this performance on 1680x1050 not even fullhd

My specs:

CPU: I5 4570 3.2Ghz
Cooler: Corsair H70
GPU: MSI Gtx 960 4gb gaming edition
Mobo: Asus z87-pro
RAM: Cmstorm devestator 2x4gb
PSU: Zalman zm750-hp (750W)

download GPU-Z and see what it says about your card. Seems odd that with that cpu you are getting such low scores.

If you have afterburner (or can use GPU-Z sensor tab), check your GPU and VRAM clock speeds (MHz) when gaming to make sure they are reaching maximum speed.

Also in windows power management make sure it is set to high performance (there is a PCI-E low power mode which has caused issues I believe).
yeah the CPU and GPU usage looks OK. Make sure everything is default in the NVidia menu (don't know what its called as I have AMD). Have you got something turned on by mistake like super high AA?

Make sure VSync turned off in game, although would be surprised if it is that.

His GPU core is a bit higher than yours (1500 vs 1380) but doubt it is that.

have you done a check for virus and malware and make sure the system all clean?

what do you get in benchmarks like Firestrike? In line with other 960 owners?

just some thoughts.

Thanks for the reply.

I've just done benchmarking and my score is 6280 which is one of the lowest gtx 960 scores 🙁 the average score with my specs and 4gb videoram is 7200.

My results:

Someone else with same specs:

Also I dont have any 3rd party anti-virus installed just the standard windows 10 anti virus.

Hello I just found out (yeah i know its dumb) but the power management was on power save mode. When I had a laptop 4 months ago i was using that all the time but on my pc i've never touched it but yeah now it is on high performance mode.

That seems to fix the problem I guess. Ark survival had a stable fps. CS:GO gained around 100 fps (120 to 230) my benchmark did not improve a lot though. It is now 6359 instead of 6200:

I'm going to test Dirt rally as soon as I can so i can make a final check if the problem is solved. Thanks again :)

Just tested Dirt Rally and average fps was 52 without any drops just like in the video so problem solved!
