Low FPS and GPU underclocked after cleaning GPU

Hello,

I just cleaned my GPU (didn't remove the cooler) just unplugged it and wanted to remove excess dust, and after I plugged everything back in, I have low fps and the GPU seems to be clocked at very low frequencies (500 mhz low). I have a nvidia gtx 550 ti which yesterday I overclocked without any problem, but today after the cleaning this problem comes up. Any ideas on what is causing this?

[EDIT]: I replugged everything again and restarted the computer and now it seems fine. Hope that continues to be the case. Any idea on what a simple restart could achieve? I didn't change anything on the cables and such.

[EDIT2]:Again I face the same problem.

My first thought from your original description is the power connection is not 100% right. If it's not getting adequate power you can have issues like that. You also mention unplugging it and plugging it back in. So there's how it happened if this is the problem. Then you got it to work after you unplugged it and plugged it back in.

So I think it's power related. Double check the 6 pin pci-ex connector, make sure it's properly seated. Check the plug on the videocard itself, it didn't break loose did it? Those plugs are not meant to stand up to a lot of pressure. If you're not careful you can cause a break in a solder joint. I'd also go ahead and remove the card entirely from the computer, so I could reseat it in the motherboard slot AND reseat the pci-ex connector. Don't assume you did everything right, if you did then you wouldn't have this problem.

Hello,

I played some games of CS:GO some hours ago and at the first game, I had low fps, the GPU was clocked at 400-500 mhz. Then I restarted and everything was fine. Now my pc has been working for about 2 hours and there is no problem again. If it was the cable, could it be fixed with a simple restart?
