Low FPS and lagg

In LoL I start the game with 60 FPS but it always drops in team fights to the low 20's I've even seen it drop to 16. In Train Simulator 2015 I can't barely move the train most of the times. It just inches as if its loading 1 frame at a time. I had a HD 7970 and my friend gave me one of his GTX 970 which I put in and tried now, but i'm still getting the same thing. I ran malwarebytes and awcleaner and got nothing. I'm totally stumped if its not the graphics card. Heres my rig

I am using a 26 inch LCD as a monitor and I have never overclocked any hardware, I have no need to 😛

It could be a heat problem, causing the card to go into "survival" mode, meaning its doing everything to keep itself from overheating, including decreasing performance. Get it under load, then check the temperature. Feel the heat pipes on the side (if its not a reference card), and if it feels too hot for a component like that (meaning over 60C), then send it to the manufacture, or the retailer.

Didn't think of that. Could be it. Then again, wouldn't it go out completely and restart?

Should mention the the 7970 was lagging as well as the 970

Install msi afterburner and monitor cpu/gpu temps while gaming.


What you are describing is heat throttling most likely, post back with a pic.

Yup it is fighting for it's survival by throttling back.

Incorrectly mounted cpu cooler, or failed/unplugged cpu cooler fans.

You need to shut down the computer before it is damaged, and fix the cpu cooler issue.

Problem Solved, bought my first ever aftermarket heat sink, Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo, attached and extra fan to the back to blow heat into my rear exhaust fan and it works like a charm, I doubt I will ever see those temps again 😀
