So recently I went from an old asus motherboard with a 3770k cpu which had an fps of about 110 in wow and after i upgraded to a gigabyte g1 gaming motherboard and an i7 6700k cpu my fps is struggling to maintain 60fps on the same settings. both computers had a g1 gaming gtx970 graphics card btw. Any reason the fps would have gone down?

FIXED - CPU was overheating so bought a waterblock for it and problem solved

If it were the iGPU, the OP would be doing a lot worse than 60FPS :)

The new system should be faster than the old one at the same clock speed.

What other changes did you make? New OS? New GPU drivers?

I would also download HWMonitor or similar free software and check on the CPU speed, temperatures, and voltages when at idle and under load.

My first advice would be to ensure that your computer is not using the integrated graphics card (Intel) on the board and is using the Gtx, you can check this in the GeForce Control panel, or by using performance mode in your energy saver options menu in the EDIT: Windows control panel
