2 things stand out.

1)The HDD. You might need to replace it. Check the health of the drive using this: https://crystalmark.info/redirect.php?product=CrystalDiskInfoInstaller
I'm guessing the games are on this drive?

2)You are but one of many users who try to run games with only a single stick of ram, while not being aware that doing so also hinders cpu performance!
You've got the capacity covered(16GB), but not the memory bandwidth the cpu could be using to run at it's full potential. Dual Channel Mode is pretty much mandatory for gaming oriented PCs.
Now, whether you choose to get a new 2x 8GB kit and sell off the single stick, or instead just add another 16GB stick - dual channel works with identical modules only.
-Memory is only guaranteed to work as sold.
-Different kits of the same brand and specs can still fail - this is simply the combination with the highest compatibility rate.
-The symptoms of incompatible memory don't always show up right away: freezing/crashing, stuttering, BSODs...

The drive is connected to the mobo via SATA 3 cable?
Motherboard drivers are up to date? https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/PRIME-Z390M-PLUS/HelpDesk_Download/

Open Windows File Explorer, click on My PC, find the HDD, right-click and select Properties.
Click on the Tools tab, and click Check. If the system detects that there are errors, you will be asked to check the disk. If no errors are found, you will see a message – You don’t need to scan this drive. But check it anyway.
