Hey guys,

I started played a lot of CSGO on my old rig. I think i'm at a point where i need more FPS (180-200). At the moment, with low settings and nvidia tweaked for best performance, it fluctuate between (60-100).

I know this is old tech, but i don't have the money to invest in a recent setup (buying house). I heard CSGO is a pretty CPU intensive game, is my AMD FX 6300 the problem for the low FPS? Or is it the GPU?

Anyway, i get can a hand on a Radeon 7970 for cheap. Will this improve my FPS to 180-200?

Specs:

MSI 760gma-p34(fx)
AMD FX 6300 (OC genie enabled)
Nvidia GeForce 640
16GB RAM DDR3

Thanks a lot

Well the FX-6300 is a 6 core processor- it is pretty decent for how much it costs: however runs a little more hotter than intel processors. I wouldn't say that's the issue.

I'd say it's your graphics card. However, check your background services running while playing CSGO. I know sometimes background processes can dip the framerate's in the background.
Ex. Antivirus scans during playing games can butcher your FPS.

It's even possible for potential viruses to cause issues with FPS. (Rare but possible)
