Hey everyone,

Just built a new rig and am having some issues.

RIG:
i7 6700k (stock)
ASUS gtx 98ti Gold edition SLI (Stock clock)
16gb DDR4 corsair ram 3600mhz
M.2 samsung 950 pro
Corsair 1200i psu
Asus maximus formula viii
Corsair h100iv2
Running at 2560x1440 res

Ran furmark today to do some test. Everything was running great, no errors nothing. Stopped Furmark for a bit then ran prime95, still no errors. Perfect, everything seems fine.

So before doing these tests I booted up fallout 4 and ran it on max settings. My frames were maxed at 165hz and would drop to 130-120 in big cities, etc.

After running Both furmark and prime95 my frames are much much lower in fallout. They aren't where they should be, im getting anywhere from 40-80 frames, and it's constantly jumping up and down. Under load my cards hit about 75c. My cpu hits about 68-74c under full load.

I noticed that when I booted up HWmonitor it showed my cpu cores jumping from 24c-50c in a matter of seconds. It would jump all over the place, my cpu fans on my radiator would rev up and down as well. My computer started to get really slow and would take a long time to boot/ restart. If I shut my pc down for a bit, then boot it back up again, everything seems to be working fine. I also had 2 times where it would say that the Nvidia driver has crashed and recovered. I have no clue what is going on.

My question is this, Do I have faulty GPU's? is my CPU bad? Did i not seat my water cooler properly? is my ram bad? (http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-3600MHz-Memory-CMK16GX4M4B3600C18/dp/B017NW5UKW?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00)

I'm just super disappointed right now, I have been waiting to build this PC for months, and I'm already having issues. I just don't want this to be an issue down the road where I have long gaming sessions and all of a sudden my PC acts up.

Thanks for taking the time to read this any help would be much appreciated!!

Reboot your machine, and next time you do another round of benching or gaming don't let the card get hot. On stock coolers I manually set the fan to a speed that I like and it keeps the temps down so I don't get the slow down. Get hot and the driver will throttle your clocks or power limit.

Ok I will give that a try and let you know.

The throttling point of the 980 Ti is 85C... you didn't get anywhere near that.

P95 while a good tool for setting TIM by getting temps far above the point that it will ever see again, is rather unsuitable for stability testing on modern CPUs. Unfortunately Fallout 4 is not widely used as a benchmark but 165 fps is a bit above what any 980 Ti can deliver, even in SLI.... (Id expect about 130-140)

I have seen this happen before when a user calls and tells me that he us noit getting the same fps that we did while on the test bench. The usual reason is that he installed GeForce Experience and allowed it to optimize settings... or that SLI has been inadvertently disabled.

Run Furmark again with GPUz on screen ... make sure both cards are under load, pay attention to power (TDP) readings and note whether the card is getting close to throttling point. I find it off that both cards are running at the same temperature ... the top card can run as much as 10C hotter unless you have mounted fan9s) on back of HD cage.

HWiNFO64 recommended for temp and voltage monitoring

And yes, at startup, system fans will spin up as windows power saving features are not as yet engaged. It may take as much as 2 minutes for system to stabilize and for idle CPU speed for example to drop to 800 MHz or so. Again, you can monitor all of this in HWiNFO

So here's what I have found so far. I took out both of my gpu's for awhile, about an hour. Then put them back in. Booted up Fallout again, but checked the graphics setting, oddly enough they were set to medium settings. Cranked them up to ultra and was getting around 80-90 solid even in higher populated area's (is this normal? seems kind of low).

Then booted up CSGO (just to test) was getting anywhere from 200-350 fps.

After that I booted up withcher 3 set all setting to ultra (besides hairworks) and was getting 85-112 fps. Played withcher for 20-30 minutes. No FPS drop, nothing. So I thought cool I think im all set...

Wrong, I booted up furmark made sure sli was working in furmark, put furmark on the highest test and just let it sit there for awhile. came back 30 mins later, the cards were both hitting around 79-82c the top one being a bit hotter. I stopped the stress test and waited for the temps to hit around 45-50.

Booted up fallout, Low fps anywhere from 30-35 fps, same with CSGO 30-35, and withcer as well 30-35.

I forgot to mention as well that these cards are pretty big, and have very little space for air, that maybe another problem. I can barely fit my hand between both of the GPU's and I have fairly small hands.

I want to water cool these things but am nervous that I have a faulty card and don't want to remove the stock cooler. I will boot up furmark again tonight and check the TDP and let you know the readings.

Do you have anything else to suggest that I do, I'm really running out of options other then just saying screw it and getting a replacement for one or both of these gpu's

Don't be top hasty especially with an issue that is like this. Give it a week or so before you send anything in, I recommend you try to run other games other than fallout, report back, and I can get a good idea of the situation.

I have tested a few other games other then fallout. Withcer 3 was running super smooth 85 - 112 and CSGO for testing purposes which hit 200-350. But after running the benchmark all games, even CSGO would drop to 30+ fps and stay there. It almost like my frames were locked at 35fps.

Issues got worse tonight, played witcher for 20-30 mins and noticed that things started getting weird. Started getting screen tearing and really low FPS. I have a Gsync display, this shouldn't be an issue. Closed witcher and opened up Nvidia control panel, and noticed that some Global 3d graphics settings were changed, like Vsync was set to on and other things were disabled. I hit restore to defaults, but the low FPS/screen tearing was still happening.

I ended up reformatting my hardrive and starting from scratch again.

Then I ran into an additional issue, I had set my XMP setting and my PC would not boot, and I would get a Qcode with 41, or 99 on it. I reset the bios and tried again, and it worked.

I then went to change a setting in my bios, my motherboard has an option for me to set my board to, Optimal setting, power saver, or default. I set it to Optimal setting and rebooted, again was faced with the issue of it not booting, reset bios, tried to set it to optimal again. Same issue. I wouldnt be able to boot, Qcod 41 or 99.

I reset again and just set my XMP settings, and it worked fine after that.

Really running out of ideas here guys, why can't I set settings to optimal withing my motherboard? What is up with this Low FPS issue and settings changing?

Any additional help would be appreciated
