Hi everyone, I bought an EVGA 1070 Founders Edition a couple of weeks ago, and since then I've been getting lower framerates than expected in a few games I recently bought too.
I've been getting drops below 60fps down to the low 50's and even into the 40s in the Witcher 3 at 1080p (Ultra settings, no hairworks, SSAO) which I was led to believe I'd never see with such a powerful card. Various threads I've come across have all said that the 1070 should easily be able to handle this game at 1080p max settings. I'm not very far into the game but these drops tend to happen when there's a lot of weather effects going on, or when I'm fighting enemies, or running through the forest, etc.
Another game where it's not so much a problem is Overwatch. Before buying the card I looked at few benchmarks stating that the lowest fps recorded while in game was around 205fps on Ultra (not epic) settings. On my rig with the same settings (normal scaling) it often drops into the low 130's at points.
I don't actually know if there's something wrong or if this is just how the card is. Help would be appreciated
Solutions tried:
- DDU used to wipe old drivers, re-downloaded and installed newest drivers from Nvidia website
- Tried using older drivers
- Reinstalled Windows
SPECS:
Asus Z170 AR Motherboard
Intel Core i5 6600k @ 3.5ghz
Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 8GB RAM @ 2133mhz
GTX 1070 Founders Edition (EVGA) stock clocked
Seasonic G-650 650w 80Plus Gold Power Supply
Seagate Barracuda 2TB Hard Drive (storage)
Samsung 850 EVO 250gb SSD (OS drive)
Windows 10 64 bit
EDIT: With both my graphics card and cpu overclocked to stable levels the frame drops still occur. I noticed that my card constantly reaches it's power and voltage limit on and off during gameplay and benchmarks (even at stock clocks) causing it to throttle and I don't know if it is normal for it to be doing that at stock settings or not.
Benchmarks and tests:
3DMark Firestrike 1.1 Result: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/9360842
Unigine Heaven Result
Afterburner Hardware Monitor during Unigine Heaven
Witcher 3 Screencap (Ultra, Hairworks ON, HBAO+) 47fps
Witcher 3 Screencap (Ultra, Hairworks OFF, SSAO) 55fps
