Hello guys.

Recently one of my friends purchased a RX 550 for his setup, changing from a fairly older HD 5830 we expected a big jump in performance, but its working the other way around. He gets very low fps in practically every game we tested.

But here is the thing: We tested the same GPU in an older PC her sister has and it works way better. (Game that was getting about 20-30 fps in his PC works at 60+ on his sisters)

His setup: ASUS Prime A320m-k , 8 GB 2666 Mhz DDR4 Crucial, RX 550 2gb Powercolor and Athlon 3000g. (Her sisters PC has an older CPU with ddr3 ram)

We already updated and tried different AMD drivers, we did a BIOS update, we checked if his pc was somehow using her iGPU instead of the 550 but nothing.

What else can we try?

GPU Z: (Driver date is old because it was taken with the one from powercolor's website)

Solution
claim you updated drivers but did you remove the previous first.
when making a significant graphics upgrade and running into issues you should always remove previous drivers, settings, etc with DDU in Safe Mode.
then install the latest version offered directly from AMD.

but also where did you get this GPU?
if purchased used the fact that it has been under-performing could very well be why it was being sold.

yeah we did DDU in every install. No luck.

He bought it new from retailer, not an used card.

Is it possible that PCi 3.0 4x hinders performance that much? that gpu is PCI 3.0 x8.

At 1080p and lower resolution, it's CPU that does most work, that's your bottleneck.

But how come an older, weaker CPU in another PC works better?

Also, he gets more FPS in his PC with an older GPU too.

EDIT: We managed to get it to work propery, really no idea what specific thing we did that solved the problem, it was maybe by putting the PC on high performance in energy settings. Thanks for the answers!
