im playing on ultra on bf4 without anti aliasing and the framerate drops down to 30fps which is unacceptable for a 3gb card.

Solution
what resolution are you playing at?

a drop down to 30fps seems normal if you're playing at 1080p on ultra... or at 1440p definitely.

you're most likely not using 3gb of VRAM, unless you turn on the anti-aliasing... you can monitor VRAM usage in afterburner

im running at 1080p and most of the time its 60fps but then itll drop to around 30 on some maps

Just because the card has 3gb of vram, doesn't mean it will automatically never struggle in any game... GPU power isn't measured by amount of VRAM.

It's simple... that gpu is not powerful enough to run a constant 60+ fps on ultra.

yeah i know that 3gb doesn't mean much but it shouldn't drop that low. what card would be the best bet for 60 fps constant?

On the AMD side, a R9 290X will be able to stay above 60fps with minor dips below (probably not very noticable).

On Nvidia side, a GTX 780 would probably be enough. Or there's the GTX 780 Ti which is even more powerful, but more expensive. I have the 780 Ti myself, and I have seen dips as low as 65fps while playing BF4.

If you want the cheapest option, the Radeon R9 290X would probably be best, just find a good model. ASUS and MSI sound like they are good choices. The Nvidia cards usually have a better gaming experience, but you pay a little more.

Depends on the settings you wish to use. At max setting I'd recommend a GTX 780 mine doesn't drop below 70 FPS on Ultra and I spend most of my time in the 90-100's, or a R9 290.

If you bring down your filters slightly like AA and AO a GTX 770 will perform well! a 760 if you turn off AA and use SSAO. Same with 280-280x.
