Low fps on high end pc

I've played team fortress 2 constantly for about 3 years now and have always had a stable framerate of minimum 150. but for the past 2 weeks my framerate has been fluctuating and dropping constantly from about 200 down to sometimes 50 in some situations.

I've tested some other games like The Witcher 2 and Deus Ex human Revolution and get smooth constant framerates on them even at ultra settings.
Is there anything that could be causing this like an issue with a recent update or driver issues?

My PC specs:
CPU: Intel i7 -4770
GPU: Nvidia GTX 780
16 Gigabytes of memory
PSU: Corsair 800W

Any help would be greatly appreciated

i checked. the temps are about 61 celcius on the CPU and 50 celcius on the GPU while the game is running. would that me hot enought to cause the fps drops?

Well if its only in tf2 probably the new updates are un-stable wait for next update and see or contact steam
